What is the Bowen Technique?
Bowen is a system of bodywork developed by Tom Bowen in the 1950s in Australia. Using a series of moves over soft tissue and muscles, the body becomes deeply relaxed, encouraging needful change. This may manifest in lowering of stress levels, releasing of tightness in muscles and fascia, reduction in pain levels or more fundamental physiological changes.
Interspersed with the moves are periods of rest, giving time for these changes to take place, and for the therapist to respond accordingly
Conditions which may respond to Bowen Technique
Bowen Technique can be used by people presenting with a wide range of symptoms, from sports injuries to infant colic, child development issues to arthritis in the elderly and stress related conditions in all ages.
Going for treatment
Treatments can take place through clothing if necessary, although it can be helpful to work directly onto skin. The client will be asked to lie on a couch in both prone and supine positions. If this is not possible, owing to age, infirmity or injury, all is not lost, and various positions will be found to accommodate this.
How many treatments will I need?
A typical treatment will last from 45 minutes to an hour. The number of treatments needed will depend on many factors, but an average would be three or four. As a rule, an acute injury will respond faster than a chronic condition, but every person is different and likely to respond in differing ways. Many people like to have regular Bowen treatments to maintain health.
The technique is holistic in every sense, in that the whole person is addressed, and it is interesting to observe how often a client will arrive with a specific injury, and find that their asthma or stress headaches have disappeared after treatment! At the end of a treatment, the client will be helped up, water given, and any appropiate after care advised.
Bowen Technique and children
Small infants are often treated on a parent's knee. All children are asked to be accompanied by a relative.
What will it all cost?
The cost of each treatment is £35.00. I am available at the North Lakes Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so to book an appointment please call the clinic on 01900 821112.
